Cockled Whilst Away

Cockled Whilst Away

What fiend doth steal mine true love’s heart away?
Comes sneaking through dark shadows of the night
With liquored kiss that sets pure thoughts astray,
Oblivious of caring, wrong from right.

Whilst I am occupied with noble work,
For King and country faithfully I toil.
No duty, fight, or favor shall I shirk,
No Lady or fair maiden doth I spoil.

So mind ye, very soon will come the day
Whence I’ll be granted leave to find my home.
Thence twice, for dirty deeds, thine knave shall pay.
No longer from my Lady willst I roam.

Mine faith needs gathering from deep within,
May God help me forgive her for such sin!
