Water’s Edge

City raised by water’s edge,
drawing people to its shore,
where historians allege
flatboats and canoes once roamed,
detailed in the local lore
shamans vocally intoned.

Concrete bonds your vistas now.
River flow still dominates.
Crafts much bigger now somehow
ghost Kaposia’s landfall —
echoes from its final fate,
time’s transition to St. Paul.

City raised by water’s edge,
concrete bonds your vistas now.
