You ride the waves. Oh Voyageur!
Sun beating on your leathered back,
As muscles strain ‘gainst breaking waves
In deep uncharted wilderness.
.
While as you toil, there comes a tune,
When dipping paddles to the song.
A shanty verse as you traverse
Vast waters of this wild bold land.
.
From rivers edge you carry packs
Along a stunning rich landscape
To pass cascade falls that deny
Swift passage any other way
.
These grizzled veterans of the North
Delighted in their labor’s fruits.
